It was another week of football success at Sacriston Academy as our girls football team finished as runners up in their cup competition!
The tournament began with a 1-1 draw with fellow NELT school Browney and they followed this up with a 1-0 victory over Sherburn, which meant they advanced from the group. Neville’s Cross were next up, who were dispatched in a thrilling semi-final encounter. A composed performance saw Sacriston edge out Neville’s Cross 1-0.
The final proved to be a nail-biting affair as Sacriston faced off against a strong St Margaret’s side. Despite creating several chances and showing incredible resilience in defence, the game ended 0-0 after regular time. The match was decided by penalties, where St Margaret’s emerged victorious with a 2-0 shootout win.
The girls displayed tremendous teamwork, sportsmanship, and effort throughout the tournament. Their silver-medal finish is a testament to their hard work and the bright future ahead for football at Sacriston Academy. Congratulations to all involved!
